This past year was Sharon's introduction to the sport of dragonboat racing. Starting in March, 2005, her teamThe Water Warriors practiced twice a week and competed 6 times with the season ending in September. If you look really hard, you can see me at the back of the boat on the opposite side with a blue scarf. Yes, it was cold!
This shot was taken at our first Regatta at Burnaby Marine Park. Our team consists of 25 women who are committed to working together as a team, improving our technique and seeing our team win.
The highlight of the year was winning the women's division at the Harrison Regatta in July! Our coach (Shelly "Purple" Hayes) is outstanding and challenges us to give more than we ever thought we could give. Although many of the women have been on the team for 3 or 4 years, more than half of us joined this year making our team primarily a rookie team. It was great to win in Harrison.
We also competed in Nanaimo, Cultus Lake and Kelowna.
