February turned out to be a very tough month for the Simpson family. Matthew's illness had twists and turns that were unexpected and unpredictable. Without going into the details, it will be a month that stretched our family - almost to the limits. We continue to go to the Children's Hospital with Matt for follow-up appointments.
Along with the involuntary movements, Matthew suffered from tics, so we began to see a tic disorder specialist as well. The tic disorder specialist said that Matt doesn't appear to have any ongoing tics.
The next good news is that the cardiologist has given Matt's heart a clean bill of health and will wait to see him in six months.
The neurologist did an extensive follow-up exam and said that Matt no longer has any measurable symptoms of Sydenham's chorea. He has small tremors, but is basically symptom free.
So, is he all better? Sort of. Matt still has some bad days with exhaustion, aching, migratory arthritis and back spasms. Overall, though, he has way more good days than bad days.
In many ways, Matt's illness has been a "mystery" - each doctor trying to figure out which piece of the puzzle of symptoms fits their particular area of specialty. Our care from the specialists has been excellent. Our family doctor has also been a source of encouragement and insight.
It feels like this is basically "over", but we know that sydenham's chorea and the other symptoms can return when a person is stressed, exhausted or gets another strep infection.
Thank you all for carrying this hard time with us. We have really needed you all.
Blessings,
Sharon

Gary & Sharon you and your family are constantly in our prayers. The strength and faith that you have shown as a family over this ordeal is how you have made it this far, and how you will continue to face whatever comes your way. I'm relieved that Matt's illness seems to be fading. We will continue to keep the Simpsons in our prayers!
God Bless you,
Your old old neighbors
Dave Leslie Daniel & Carolyn Ruether
How exciting, Sharon! I know it's probably still a long road, but how exciting to hear that there is in fact a light at the end of your tunnel! Remember my offer..if you and Gary need time away, I could always use some gaming lessons..hehe
